Marriage And Motherhood In My 40s
I came to New Creation Church 16 years ago. Its messages, especially those that taught me about God’s love for me, really helped me. I began to see God’s blessings in my life. However, while my career was on an upward trajectory, nothing seemed to be happening on the life partner front. Back then, whenever Pastor Prince asked us to bring our prayer requests to the Lord, “life partner” would always be among my top three requests!
Time went on and before I knew it, I was hitting 40. It is not easy when you have a prayer that has not been unanswered for a long time. However, in my heart, I believed that God had a good plan for me and would bring it to pass. Our circumstances may not always line up with the Word of God, but I believe it is precisely then that we need to hold on and trust that He who promised is faithful. And for those who desire it, we have to believe that God wants to see us blessed and married even more than we want it.
In 2013, I was introduced to Sam. At first, I really didn’t think that he was the one. I gave him a full inquisition on “law versus grace”. He couldn’t answer any of the doctrinal challenges I threw at him! It didn’t appear that he was the partner that God was giving me. As he wasn’t living in Singapore at that time, I thought it would be the right thing to tell him early that we should just remain as friends.
We continued to hang out and I got to know him better. I realised he loved the Lord and was a kind man, but I was still unsure if we were suitable. So I sought godly counsel. We even met up with one of our pastors. That session made me feel loved. Even Sam was surprised that the church cared for each member like they were family.
Eventually, I felt ready to take a step of faith and take our relationship to a next level. In 2015, Sam and I were married. But even then, we had to continue to trust God in the area of having children as I had already crossed 40.
But God was faithful. We had His promises to hold on to in the Bible and I knew that my age wasn’t a barrier for Him. The world can say a lot of things, and what we hear and read can put fear in our hearts, but it’s what God says that really matters.
On 22 May 2017, our daughter was born. She has brought so much joy into our lives, and we are grateful to God for blessing us with her.
